Following a call for tenders by the Metropolitan City of Florence, the ARTEA Group was selected to rehabilitate the Sant'Orsola site, with the signing of a concession contract granting it use of the site for 50 years.

The Sant'Orsola complex is an ancient 14th-century convent built around 3 large courtyards, with a total surface area of around 17,000 m2.

Located in the heart of Florence, Sant'Orsola is close to the Mercato Centrale di Firenze, Santa-Maria-Novella main railway station, Piazza del Duomo, San Lorenzo Basilica and the Medici Chapels.

In collaboration with the City of Florence and under the patronage of Mayor Dario NARDELLA, ARTEA will revitalize the Sant'Orsola complex by creating a genuine living space offering a range of uses and activities (both public and private):

  • A school for advanced training
  • A convention center and coworking space with individual and collective areas
  • A museum/event space housing the tomb of Mona Lisa
  • An urban garden for permaculture workshops
  • Artists' studios
  • A library café
  • Shops and craft workshops
  • A foresteria-type accommodation space
  • A fitness and wellness area
  • A toy library

All these infrastructures reflect the joint desire of the City and ARTEA to host activities for the various publics and local residents. At the same time, the site's history and the charm of its various courtyards and patios will be exploited to the full.

The project also aims to contribute to the dynamism of the San Lorenzo district and of the city as a whole, by creating a new hub for meetings and activities close to the hearts of Florentines. In its new configuration, this place will be conceived as a new heart of the city, open to all: Florentines, visitors, businessmen and women, and anyone with a love of culture and the arts, eager to enjoy a unique experience.

The renovation represents an investment of over 31 million euros, and will be managed in such a way as to respect the importance of this unique Tuscan heritage site.
