Within the framework of a consultation with the Metropolitan City of Florence, the ARTEA Group was selected to rehabilitate the Sant'Orsola site with the signature of a concession contract granting it the use of the site for 50 years.

The complex of Sant'Orsola is a former convent of the 14th century built around 3 large courtyards, with a total area of about 17,000 m2.

It is located in the heart of Florence, Sant'Orsola is near the Mercato Centrale di Firenze, the main station Santa Maria-Novella, Piazza del Duomo, the Basilica San Lorenzo, and the Medici Chapels.

In collaboration with the City of Florence and under the patronage of Mayor Dario NARDELLA, ARTEA will revive the Sant'Orsola complex by creating a real living space offering a range of uses and activities (of public and private interest):

  • A school of higher education
  • A congress centre and coworking area comprising individual and collective spaces
  • A museum/event space housing the tomb of Mona Lisa
  • An urban garden that can accommodate permaculture workshops.
  • Artists' workshops
  • A library café
  • Shops and craft workshops
  • A foresteria type accommodation space
  • A space for fitness and well-being
  • A toy library

All of these infrastructures respond to the common will of the City and ARTEA to host activities for different audiences and the inhabitants of the district. This, while taking advantage of the history of the place and the charm of its various courtyards and patios.

This project also aims to contribute to the dynamics of the San Lorenzo district and of the entire city by creating a new meeting and activity centre dear to the heart of the Florentines. In its new configuration, this place will be conceived as a new heart of the city, open to all: Florentines, visitors, business people, and anyone who loves culture and the arts and wants to live a unique experience.

The renovation represents an investment of over 31 million euros and will be managed in a way that respects the importance of this unique part of Tuscany's heritage.
