Villa Beau Chêne, in the Louis XIII style, dates from the late 19th century.
The first thing that attracted us to this property was the story of its illustrious owner, Josephine Baker, who lived here from 1929 to 1947. This American with an exceptional destiny, who lived many lives, left her mark on this château, which we acquired in order to give it a fresh start, and write a new page in its history.
This venue, which enjoyed its glory days between the wars with star Josephine Baker as its owner, had fallen into a state of near-abandonment by the early 2000s. We undertook major renovation work to restore its lustre, taking care to respect its identity and, of course, its history. Like all properties of this era, it's impossible to understand its existence without considering the park and the various features that adorned it.
After renovation, we rebuilt the wrought-iron greenhouse where Joséphine Baker grew her vegetables, and the kiosk where she liked to have tea in summer, surrounded by the many animals that roamed freely in the park, including Chiquita, her famous jaguar.
Other architectural elements are currently being renovated, and will bring this magnificent late 19th century park back to life tomorrow.
The site was recently classified as an exceptional historic monument.
